When a dog we encounter through our work in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside needs urgent care or a safe new beginning, PJ’s Pack helps us act. Donations give us the capacity to cover emergency veterinary needs and help dogs prepare for permanent homes.

The love that started it

Tasty was a bright, funny and deeply caring young woman who became part of Nestara’s community. She volunteered with us, joined our events and rarely went anywhere without PJ. At our Christmas event, she told us it was the first time in a long time she had felt the Christmas spirit—and like she had a real family.

Tasty was working toward treatment when she passed away unexpectedly. Her love for PJ was impossible to miss, and we knew one of the most meaningful ways to honour her was to make sure PJ was safe, cared for and surrounded by people Tasty trusted.

PJ needed veterinary care, time and a quiet place to recover. We brought her home, helped her rebuild her strength and eventually reunited her with trusted friends who had cared for her before. Today, PJ is safe and loved in her permanent home. Their story became the beginning of PJ’s Pack.

A second chance

Tulsa’s journey

Tulsa came to us tiny and vulnerable, needing hands-on care and a safe place to grow stronger. We bottle-fed him until we found a nursing mother dog who welcomed him into her litter and gave him the care only she could provide.

Boyka, Tulsa’s uncle, stayed close and helped show him the ropes. From there, Tulsa found a loving permanent family and now spends his days growing up beside a young boy who became his best friend.
